If you know me - and I presume you do since you are looking at
my web site - then you know that I am doing fine here in Panama without
television. But I have to have my music and books!
Music
And you also probably know that I love new and different
music. So here are some of my new discoveries:
LA
LEY, MTV Unplugged - Without doubt one of
the most enjoyable and listenable albums I have bought in a long time.
Expertly produced, this may very well be the best MTV Unplugged album
ever. Even if you are like me, and can't understand the lyrics, I guarantee that
if you like my tastes in music you will love this album!
Mana - Los Liquidos - My friend Liz
introduced me to this band from Mexico before I left for Panama. These
guys are very good, playing rock that at times borders on pop but is enjoyable
nonetheless. Another CD I highly recommend buying, especially if you like
Latin music
Shakira
- Laundry Service - I had never heard of Shakira before coming
here, but I suspect that she is also popular in the U.S. My first
impression of her was that she was another non-talented pop-phenom a la Mariah
Carey or Britney Spears. But after listening to this album I am impressed
with both her vocal qualities as well as variety of her music. She reminds
me of Debra Harry of Blondie, don't ask me why...
Sin
Fronteres - This band from Colombia is very typical of Colombian music.
If you don't care for Latino music then you won't care for this album. If
you do, then you will probably enjoy it. These guys are especially popular
with the women here, along with the Colombian band Los Voces
